Godparents

I have two god-daughters. With these two girls I feel an extra special bond.
We aren't a religious family so Paddy is not christened or baptised and we didn't go through any other ceremony when he was born.

I'm not worried about this - the down side for me though, is that he doesn't have any godparents. I know he will have so many people in his life that will love him. I just wonder whether he is missing out by not having a close connection with someone other than us.

Any thoughts? Do your children have godparents?

Our children have god parents... actually, we haven't actually gotten around to christening The Badoo so technically she doesn't. We're not particularly religious (although our background is Catholic) but you're right in that it's nice for your children to have an extra bond with adults. You could always have your own kind of 'ceremony' to give Paddy two "life buddies" or something... x

My son has god parents also... my sister and my husbands brother and wife (if was really hard to decide) we are catholic but not religious...you could do a naming ceremony...i know lots of people who have done one of these - it was like a celebration of this new little life.

Our little Will doesn't have any - he didn't have any ceremonies either, but he has aunties and uncles who adore him and lots of special people who look out for him! Its so lovely to 'meet' you too!

We are religious - but our kids do not have god parents. They have both been dedicated, but not baptised. My girls have very close relationships with my older sister and her husband plus my younger sister, and also are very close with a number of our friends. I think you can create special bonds without needing the official title of God Parent.

I am a god mother to my cousins little boy, and to be honest I have seen him about 3 times. We live two hours away and although I was honoured to be asked...I feel there could have been someone better that lived closer and could be a good influence on his life more frequently.
