Moving Forward

After spending the last week feeling sorry for myself, I have finally snapped out of it.

The change came when I walked outside and saw that I was growing sunflowers without even knowing it. I had been so consumed by my self pity that I had forgotten to look around me. What a joy to find at least 10 of these little beauties dotting the paddocks.

So I give myself a good stern talking to and went inside and baked these Condensed Milk Chocolate Chip cookies to celebrate.

(By the way, I halved this recipe and it made at least 30 little cookies)

1 can condensed milk
500g butter
1 1/2 cups caster sugar
5 cups SR flour
250g white chocolate
250g milk chocolate

  • Cream butter, sugar and condensed milk until pale and fluffy.
  • Add sifted flour and choc pieces and mix well
  • Bake at 180 degrees for 15 mins
I know the acceptance has come when today I got home from work and planted some herbs in the garden. This is a long way from getting home from work and slumping onto the couch.

Definitely moving forward!

Rhythm of a Working Mum

My new weekly routine conisists of 4 half days and 1 full day at work. Paddy comes with me every day and on the full day my wonderful mother looks after him for me. I can do this, in fact I am finding my work life far easier because of it. It's just my home life that isn't easier.
I have never been a working mum before so things like getting to the end of the week and not being able to see my floor for mess or deciding what is for dinner at 4pm that afternoon on the drive home are new ones for me.
I am desperate to find a rhythm for this new way of being. A rhythm that will still allow the home me to shine through - the me that bakes, the me that grocery shops for quality and nutrition rather than convenience, the me that crafts, the me that blogs.
Other working mums out there, how did you find your rhythm so that the most important things remained the most important and didn't get swallowed up by the working you?
