Hand-made Gifts

Now I know this isn't a new concept for a lot of you but for me this is a huge idea. I am starting to come out of the haze of early pregnancy and feeling a little more positive about life in general.
I am starting to crochet again (thank goodness!). I have started a very colourful baby ripple blanket. My original intention was to give it as a present but I am loving the colours and think it might have a better home in my baby's cot.

That photo shows me that I really need to find my camera instead of using my phone to take photos!!
Anyway, I have zero idea of how to sew and reading all of your wonderful blogs has given me the itch. So I have lined my Mum up for some serious beginners sewing lessons. She said she taught herself to sew. I wouldn't know where to start!! Lucky I have my Mum close by.
I would love to make some summer dresses for my baby neice when she comes to visit over Christmas. And some shorts for the baby boys in my life. I would just love to feel the pride in giving presents that I made myself with love instead of buying from some big chain company.
I have also found a pattern for crochet grocery bags which I think I will do up as presents for the big people. And hopefully I will get far enough with my sewing lessons to whip up a few cute tote bags.
Any hand-made gift ideas would be welcome.....

Carnival of Flowers

Last weekend I took the trip to Toowoomba for the Carnival of Flowers. Friends flew in from Mackay and we spent the weekend at the Food and Wine Festival. This was the first time I have been to something with my girlfriends where I can't have a wine - and we have been going to the Food and Wine festival for a while now. I did ok - I just ate instead of drinking wine. There was organic doughnuts from Byron Bay, Langos from Hungary, the good old jacket potato, Arancini balls, pumpkin asparagus and feta salad and a great juice van which I visited often. Lots of good music and good laughs with great girlfriends. How I wish we all lived closer!
Back home now and Cooper is here (Danny's son) for the school holidays. It is so great having him around - he make me very happy. So a week with him is exactly what I need right now to snap me out of hormonal crankiness.
Yesterday was absurd!!! I was soooooo cranky - nobody could look at me. And I have no idea why. So right now I am waiting for a chocolate cake to cook so I can take it to work with me as an apology for my ridiculous crankiness yesterday. Hopefully bribery willl work.....

Guess what I got in the mail....

And I can't wait to curl up in my bed and devour it.
I watched Gay Bilson on TV the other day and was absolutely mesmerised by her. I just needed to know more so I ordered her book immediately.
How exciting!

The light is gone!

What a day!!!
It started when I woke up and threw up water 3 times in about half and hour. I kept down some toast, had a sleep then went for a shower when I woke up and passed out in the shower. After freaking out for an hour or so I slept for 4 hours. And now I am ready for bed again.
After speaking to my Mum we might have worked out that I am just not eating enough. Meat makes me feel so sick so I have only been eating fruit and veges and breads. I don't think I am getting enough protein.
I am eating all the time - small meals every hour or so - but I don't think I am eating anything substantial enough and this is why I am super super super tired.
What do you guys think?

I am starting to see the light

That is at the end of the long tunnel of morning sickness. Today I started to feel a little more like myself again.
I started the day at farmers market getting my organic fruit and vege for only $29 dollars! I love Jim my organic farmer!
I picked up a loaf of sourdough bread on my way home and made a breakfast of organic tomato and feta on toasted sourdough with balsamic vinegar. So good I had to have it twice today.
I did two loads of washing, hung out two loads of washing and put away two loads of washing - that has to be a record for me!
I baked carrot muffins - yes I actually cooked something.
I even snuck in a sleep for an hour or two.
I watched Australia win the netball final - fantastic game.
Then cooked a roast dinner for Danny - well he had to handle and cook the leg of lamb. Yep still can't eat meat.
And now I am winding down feeling a little bit more back to my old self. I think I will feel even better if I get an uninterrupted sleep, please sleep gods let this be so....

What else to do at 3am...

but crochet some Granny Squares!

Here is the few I did this morning after giving up on getting back to sleep.
I might have a blanket finished by this weekend if I keep this up!

A perfect moment

We were driving on the back roads to Polo with the windows down on an extra beautiful Saturday. My husband singing "Carolina on my mind" along with James Taylor. Perfect!
Great polo weekend with not doing much more than eating, chatting and cheering on Danny who won the final at Ashling.
Perfect weekend only marred by me losing Danny's wedding ring while he was playing. I'm blaming it on the pregnancy brain.....

I love my Mum!

When I couldn't get out of bed my Mum pottered around my house for days. She cleaned and re-arranged and the best part of all, she planted two rose plants in pots for me.
When I got home from work yesterday I saw that one of the roses had flowered. And it had the most beautiful perfume!
Just one of the many reasons why I love my Mum!
